Editing the genetic code of the embryo

A group of scientists from American and South Korean institutions successfully removed from the DNA of the human embryo gene mutation, which is responsible for the development of the disease. During the experiment, a material for DNA "repair" with the help of an artificially created healthy gene was introduced into the egg, but embryos used a healthy gene from the maternal DNA instead. Scientists claim that they have not recorded any unwanted changes in DNA.

Why it matters. With the help of embryonic genomic editing technology, it is theoretically possible to prevent the appearance of people with certain types of diseases.
